Illinois State Representative Maurice West (D–Rockford) is holding his campaign kickoff for Mayor of Rockford on Saturday, August 29. Rep. West has consistently supported legislation expanding abortion and removing legal protections for unborn children.
The Rockford Family Initiative will be there to provide a peaceful public witness for Jesus Christ, mothers, and children in the womb.
Here are some of the policies Rep. West has supported during his time in the Illinois House:
Voted for the Reproductive Health Act, which established abortion and other reproductive health care as fundamental rights in Illinois.
Voted to repeal Illinois’ parental-notification requirement for minors seeking abortions.
Voted for legislation containing language stating that a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent rights under Illinois law.
Voted for legislation requiring state-regulated private insurance plans to cover abortion.
Supported HB40, which authorized public funding for abortion through Medicaid and state employee insurance plans.
Supported Illinois’ expansion of abortion protections and access.
Supported legislation establishing Illinois as a protective jurisdiction for abortion providers and people seeking abortions from other states.
Sponsored legislation establishing an end-of-life option involving physician-prescribed aid-in-dying medication for terminally ill patients.
Publicly defended his abortion votes and said he had decided to “trust women to do what’s best for themselves.”
Was an Honorary Host Committee Member of Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ Annual Celebration.
Rep. West has also spoken at pro-abortion fundraising events that support the abortion industry.
As he seeks to become Mayor of Rockford, we believe it is important for Christians and pro-life citizens to make their voices heard.
