ROCKFORD, IL., December 12, 2020 -- The first annual Rockford Walk for Life will take place on January 23, 2021 at 10AM. The event will begin with a rally at the Stanley J. Roszkowski United States Federal Courthouse at 327 South Church Street and then walk in procession past the State of Illinois building at 200 South Wyman Street, and then back to the Federal Courthouse.

Modeled after the annual March for Life in Washington, DC, the event is being organized by the Rockford Family Initiative, and several area churches and social/political groups will be in attendance.
"Thankfully, Rockford has been without an abortion clinic for over 10 years, and we want to make sure it stays that way," said Kevin Rilott, President of Rockford Family Initiative. "Abortion takes a human life, and we will be standing up together to express our love for God and all of his children," Rilott continued.
Illinois is considered an “abortion capital” in the U.S., and in May 2019 the IL General Assembly passed one of the most pro-abortion laws in the country. This law declare that a baby in the womb does not have independent rights and that women have a fundamental “right” to abortion.
"Illinois has very pro-abortion laws, but thankfully there are Marches and Walks for Life happening all over the country," said Rilott. "Now is our chance to join all of these pro-lifers with our own Walk, right here in Rockford. We will walk past the Federal Courthouse, which represents the Roe V. Wade decision that legalized the killing of children in the womb, and then past the State of Illinois building, which houses the offices of the local politicians who voted for one of the most pro-abortion laws in the country.”
The event will feature several speakers, including Joe and Ann Scheidler, founders of the Pro-Life Action League. The Walk will begin at 10:00AM and end at 11:30AM. Attendees are being asked to follow all state and local COVID-19 protocols.
